CheckingtheEngineOilLevel
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Theengineisshippedwithoilinthecrankcase;
however,theoillevelmustbecheckedbeforeandafter
theengineisrststarted.
Crankcasecapacityisapproximately1-3/4USquarts
(1.66l)withthelter.
Usehigh-qualityengineoilthatmeetsthefollowing
specications:
•APIClassicationLevelRequired:SJ,SK,SLor
higher.
•Preferredoil:SAE30(above40degreesF)
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface.
2.Pivotseatrearward.
3.Pulloutthedipstick(
Figure10)andwipeitwitha
cleanrag.Insertthedipstickintothetubeandmake
surethatitisseatedfully.Removethedipstickfrom
thetubeandchecktheoillevel.Iftheoillevelis
low,removethellercapfromthevalvecoverand
addenoughoiltoraisetheleveltotheFullmark
onthedipstick.
Important:Besuretokeeptheengineoillevel
betweentheupperandlowerlimitsontheoil
gauge.Enginefailuremayoccurasaresultof
overllingorunderllingtheengineoil.

Important:Thedipstickmustbefullyseated
inthetubetoprovidepropersealingofthe
enginecrankcase.Failuretosealthecrankcase
mayresultinenginedamage.

Important:Checktheoillevelevery8
operatinghoursordaily.Initially,changethe
oilaftertherst8hoursofoperation;thereafter,
undernormalconditions,changetheoiland
lterevery50hours.However,changetheoil
morefrequentlywhentheengineisoperatedin
extremelydustyordirtyconditions.
FillingtheFuelTank
UseUnleadedregulargasolinesuitableforautomotive
use(87pumpoctaneminimum).Leadedregular
gasolinemaybeusedifunleadedregularisnotavailable.
Fueltankcapacityisapproximately4-1/2gallons
(16.1l).
DANGER
Incertainconditions,gasolineisextremely
ammableandhighlyexplosive.Areorexplosion
fromgasolinecanburnyouandothersandcan
damageproperty.
•Fillthefueltankoutdoors,inanopenarea,
whentheengineiscold.Wipeupanygasoline
thatspills.
•Neverllthefueltankinsideanenclosedtrailer.
•Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.Add
gasolinetothefueltankuntilthelevelis1inch
(25mm)belowthebottomofthellerneck.
Thisemptyspaceinthetankallowsgasoline
toexpand.
•Neversmokewhenhandlinggasoline,andstay
awayfromanopenameorwheregasoline
fumesmaybeignitedbyaspark.
•Storegasolineinanapprovedcontainerand
keepitoutofthereachofchildren.Neverbuy
morethana30-daysupplyofgasoline.
•Donotoperatewithoutentireexhaustsystem
inplaceandinproperworkingcondition.
