10. Close the rear access co v er .
11. Star t the engine and c hec k for leaks .
Bleeding the Fuel System
Bleed the air from the fuel system in any of the
follo wing situations:
• Initial star t up of a new traction unit or a
traction unit that has been stored.
• After the engine has ceased r unning due to
lac k of fuel.
• After maintenance has been perfor med on the
fuel system components .
1. Open the rear access co v er .
2. Place a drain pan under the fuel filter to catc h
spills .
3. Open the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter
to fill the bo wl with fuel ( Figure 31 ).

4. Close the bleed screw when fuel comes out in
a steady stream.
5. On left side of the engine , locate the air v ent
plug on top of the fuel injection pump and
connect a hose to it, leading to a drain pan.
6. Open the v ent plug and crank the engine until
fuel comes out a steady stream.
7. Close the v ent plug .
8. Close the rear access co v er .
Draining the Fuel Tank
In cer tain conditions, fuel is extr emel y
flamma ble and highl y explosi v e. A fir e or
explosion fr om gasoline can bur n y ou and
other s and can dama ge pr oper ty .
• Drain fuel fr om the fuel tank when the
engine is cold. Do this outdoor s in an
open ar ea. W ipe up an y spills.
• Nev er smok e when draining fuel, and
stay a w ay fr om an open flame or wher e a
spar k may ignite the fumes.
1. P ark the traction unit on a lev el surface , to
ensure that the fuel tanks drain completely .
2. Lo w er the loader ar ms and stop the engine .
R emo v e the k ey .
3. Shut off the fuel v alv e in the hose near the
bottom of the fuel tank as illustrated in
Figure 32 .

4. Open the rear access co v er .
5. Loosen the hose clamp at the fuel filter and
slide it up the fuel line a w a y from the filter .
6. Pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter , open the
fuel v alv es , and allo w the fuel to drain into a
fuel can or drain pan.
