mowingspeeduntilthebrakesarehot,asindicated
bytheirsmell.Youmayneedtoadjustthebrakes
afterthebreak-inperiod;refertoAdjustingtheBrakes
(page36).
AdjustingtheBrakes
Abrakeadjustmentrodislocatedateachsideofthe
machinesothatyoucanadjustthebrakesequally.
1.Whilemovingforwardintransportspeed,press
thebrakepedal;bothwheelsshouldapply
equally.
CAUTION
Testingthebrakesinaconnedarea
whereothersarepresentcouldcause
injury.
Alwayscheckthebrakesinawide,
open-spaced,atareafreefrompeople
andobstructionsbeforeandafterthe
adjustment.
2.Ifthebrakesdonotapplyequally,adjustthe
brakesasfollows:
A.Disconnectthebrakerodsbyremovingthe
cotterpinandclevispin(Figure46).

B.Loosenthejamnutandadjusttheclevis
accordingly(Figure46).
C.Assembletheclevistothebrakeshaft

D.Whenyoupressthebrakepedal,thepedal
shouldmove13to26mm(1/2to1inch)
travelbeforethebrakeshoescontactsthe
brakedrums.Adjusttheclevisonthebrake
shaft,ifnecessary,toachievethissetting.
E.Whilemovingforwardintransportspeed,
pressthebrakepedal;bothbrakesshould
applyequally.Adjustthem,ifnecessary.
