ServicingtheAirCleaner
ServiceInterval:Every200hours—Servicethe
air-cleanerlter(morefrequently
whenoperatingconditionsaredusty
ordirty).
Checktheair-cleanerbodyfordamagewhich
couldcauseanairleak;replaceitifitisdamaged.
Checkthewholeintakesystemforleaks,damage,
orloosehoseclamps.
Changingtheairlterbeforeitisnecessary
increasesthechanceofdirtenteringtheengine
whenthelterisremoved.
Ensurethatthecoverisseatedcorrectlyandseals
withtheaircleanerbody.
1.Releasethelatchesthatsecuretheair-cleaner
covertotheair-cleanerbody(Figure32).

2.Removethecoverfromtheair-cleanerbody.
3.Beforeremovingthelter,uselowpressureair
(275kPa(40psi),cleananddry)tohelpremove
largeaccumulationsofdebrispackedbetween
theoutsideoftheprimarylterandthecanister.
Thiscleaningprocesspreventsdebrisgetting
intotheintakewhenyouremovetheprimary
lter.
Important:Avoidusinghighpressureair
whichcouldforcedirtthroughthelterinto
theintaketract.
4.Removeandreplacetheprimarylter,as
follows:
Important:Donotcleantheusedelement.
A.Inspectthenewlterforshippingdamage;
donotuseadamagedelement.
B.Carefullypulltheoldlteroutofthelter
bodyanddiscardit.
C.Insertthenewlterbyapplyingpressure
totheouterrimoftheelementtoseatitin
thecanister,checkingthesealingendofthe
lterandthebody.
Important:Donotapplypressuretothe
exiblecenterofthelter.
5.Cleanthedirtejectionportlocatedinthe
removablecover.Removetherubberoutlet
valvefromthecover,cleanthecavityand
replacetheoutletvalve.
6.Installthecoverorientingtherubberoutletvalve
inadownwardposition—betweenapproximately
5o’clockto7o’clockwhenviewedfromtheend.
7.Ensurethatthelatchessecurethecovertothe
body(Figure32).

CheckingtheEngineOil
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
Theengineisshippedwith3.7L(3.9USqt)(with
lter)ofoilinthecrankcase;however,youmustcheck
theoillevelbeforeandafterstartingtheenginethe
rsttime.
Usehigh-qualityengineoilthatmeetsthefollowing
specications:
APIClassicationLevelRequired:CH–4,CI–4or
higher.
Preferredoil:SAE10W–30
Alternateoil:SAE15W–40
ToroPremiumEngineoilisavailablefromyour
distributorinthe10W–30viscosity.Seetheparts
catalogforpartnumbers.
Note:Thebesttimetochecktheengineoiliswhen
theengineiscoolbeforeithasbeenstartedforthe
day.Ifithasalreadybeenrun,allowtheoiltodrain
backdowntothesumpforatleast10minutesbefore
checking.IftheoillevelisatorbelowtheAddmark
