Chapter 14
Quality of Service
The modem router allows you to configure the quality of service (QoS) for optimal
throughput and performance when handling differentiated wireless traffic, such as
Voiceover-IP (VoIP), other types of audio, video, streaming media, and traditional IP data.
To configure QoS on the modem routers, you should set parameters on the transmission
queues for different types of wireless traffic. In normal use, we recommend that you
keep the default values for the modem routers.
14. 1. Set up QoS for the network
This feature helps the modem router allocate upstream bandwidth to improve the
network’s overall performance.
To set up QoS for the network:
1. Visit http://tplinkmodem.net or http://192.168.1.1, and log in with the password you
set for the modem router.
2. Go to Advanced > QoS > Basic Settings.
3. Enable QoS.
4. Select the scheduling algorithm according to your needs.
PQ (Priority Queue): Select this if you want to ensure services in higher-priority
queues. The router will process outgoing traffic from the highest-priority queue first,
then from a lower-priority queue.
WRR (Weighted Round Robin): Select this if you want to balance traffic in queues
proportional to their queue weight. The router will process more packets in a queue if
the queue has a higher weight.
5. Enter your total Upstream Bandwidth Limit.
6. Click Save to make the settings effective.
