Field Installation of a BlueTOAD Spectra RSU
1. Guidelines to install an RSU enclosure:
a. Mounting Structure—a Mast Arm or Signal Pole that is:
Near the roadside traffic signal cabinet, or appropriate 120 VAC power source
Note: The mounting pole should be near the cabinet for easy conduit access.
Has a mounting location with a clear line-of-sight from the RSU antennas to the target
road segment
b. Mounting Height8 meters (26.3 feet) to 15 meters (49.2 feet) above the roadbed
c. Mount the Enclosure to a Mast Arm or Pole a Mast Arm

i. Insert the two metal Cable Bands through their slots in the Mounting Bracket.
Note: The Mounting Bracket is “dual-direction,” designed to mount on either a
horizontal or vertical pole.
ii. Wrap the Cable Bands around the pole.
Note: The Cable Bands are designed for mounting on Mast Arms, Poles, I-Beams or
other support structures up to 14” in diameter.
iii. Use a drill to tighten the Cable Bands with a 5/16” nut driver bit or equivalent.

The preferred installation is on a Mast Arm, as shown on the next page.
