General Wiring Information
This section provides information about the following:
Input/output terminal wiring
AC power wiring
Communication link wiring and addressing
Input/Output Terminal Wiring
All input/output terminal wiring for the MP503 must meet the following requirements:
All wiring must comply with the National Electric
al Code™ (NEC) and local codes.
Use only 18 AWG twisted-pair wire with stranded, tinn
ed-copper conductors (Trane
recommends shielded wire).
Binary output wiring must not exceed 1000 ft (300 m).
Binary input and 4–20 mA input wiring must not exceed 1000 ft (300 m).
Thermistor input and 0–10 Vdc input wiring must not exceed 300 ft (100 m).
Important:
Do not run input/output wires in the same wire bundle with any ac power wires.

AC Power Wiring
CAUTION
Equipment Damage!
To prevent equipment damage, do not share 24 Vac between devices.
CAUTION
Equipment Damage!
Complete input/output wiring before applying power to the MP503. Failure to do so may cause
damage to the device or power transformer due to inadvertent connections to power circuits.
WARNING
Hazardous Voltage!
Disconnect all electric power, including remote disconnects before servicing. Follow proper
lockout/tagout procedures to ensure the power can not be inadvertently energized. Failure to
disconnect power before servicing could result in death or serious injury.

Ensure that the 24 Vac transformer is properly grounded. Failure to do so could result in death
or serious injury and/or damage to equipment.
The recommended wire for ac power is 16 AWG (1.3 mm2)copper wire. All wiring must comply with
National Electrical Code and local codes. The ac power connections are in the top left corner of the
MP503 as shown Figure 3.
