4.2 Coupling Ring Application
A network may have more than one X-Ring group. By using the coupling ring function,
the switch can connect each X-Ring for the redundant backup. This will ensure
transmissions between two ring groups do not fail. The following figure is a sample of
coupling ring application. The couple ring consists of four switches—switch 1 ~ switch
4—which are connected to each other via the paths in red. Please note that the
Coupling Ring Backup Path between switch 1 and switch 3 is blocked; it will work only
when the path between switch 2 and switch 4 is broken or disconnected.
