primary
chain
TO ADJUST THE CLUTCH
AND
THE CLUTCH OPERATING MECHANISM
The clutch
is
situated on the left side of the machine inside the primary
chaincase.
If
the clutch is dragging and normal adjustment of t
he
operating mechanism produces no improvement it will be necessary to
remove the primary chain case
to
adjust the three springs which provide
the
loading on the pressure plate. To remove the primary chaincase first
take off the left exhaust pipe and swing the footrest and brake
pedal out
of the way. Place a tray underneath, and release the cover by unscrewing
two domed nuts and eight screws. The three
sl
otted nuts on the clutch
should be tight
en
ed initially until the heads are flush with the end of the
pins. The handlebar clutch lever should be
pulled and the starter pedal
operated
whilst you watch the outermost of the clutch. This should lift
evenly and
tu
rn
without wobbl
in
g.
If one s
id
e of the plate
is
high the
slotted nut nearest
to
it should be tightened as necessary until the
pressure plate lifts and turns evenly. After replacing
the
cover replenish
the chaincase with approximately

l as used in the
main
oil rservoir. The correct level of oil
is
maintain
ed
by the
en
gine
breathing system.
