GENERAL OPERATION
Operation - 39
Operating On Slopes
WARNING
Operation on slopes decreases the power unit sta-
bility and increases the potential for unexpected dif-
culties. Only experienced operators should operate
the power unit on slopes and extra caution should
be exercised.
Use low range when operating on slopes greater
than 15 degrees.
Never shift between high and low range while on a
slope. Always move the machine to level ground and
engage the parking brake before shifting range.
Avoid uneven, loose, or wet terrain.
Stay clear of drop-os, holes, ditches, rocks, or ob-
jects that could cause a sudden and/or unexpected
force on the power unit.
Make slow and cautious starts, stops, and turns.
Do not exceed the maximum degree of operation.
Refer to the power unit capability illustrations.
Turn downhill when possible and/or reduce the
degree of turns.
Ensure a sucient supply of fuel for continuous
operation. A minimum of one-half tank of fuel is
recommended.
To prevent fuel spillage, do not remove the fuel tank
cap while the power unit is on a slope.
Failure to follow safety instructions while operating
on slopes can result in injury or death. Always use
caution when operating on slopes.
ATTENTION
Maximum angle of operation for the engine
(Vanguard Model 54) in the 4520K power unit: 20°
continuous, 30° intermittent^.
^Intermittent: the engine may operate between
20° and 30° for up to 10 minutes. If 10 minutes is
reached, the engine must be returned to 20° or less
to ensure proper oil lubrication. After returning to
20° or less, the intermittent cycle may be repeated.
Maintain sucient fuel in the tank to ensure continu-
ous operation.
Cease operation if the power unit stability is question-
able, or if the operator is uncomfortable or unsure of
continuing safely.
Attachments can aect the stability of the power unit.
Each attachment will aect the power unit dierently.
Increase the amount of weight being transferred to
the power unit from the attachment while operating
on slopes. Refer to the Weight Transfer section.
Always operate carefully and in a manner that does
not compromise safety.
Always keep the roll bar in the upright, locked posi-
tion and fasten yourself securely with the seat belt.

pability with dierent equipment options.
