Sound Parameters – Modulation Speed Levels
Waldorf Q User’s Manual 58
Fast Modulation
Though not calculated in sample speed, the Fast Modulation calculations are performed in audio
speed: more than 5000 times per second (>5kHz). Most of the modulations in the Q are performed at
this speed level. The following table lists all pre-routed Fast Modulation destinations:
Pre-routed Modulation destinations Description
Oscillator PitchMod Global pitch modulation of all three Oscillators at once
Oscillator 1 PWM Pulse width modulation of Oscillator 1
Oscillator 2 PWM Pulse width modulation of Oscillator 2
Oscillator 3 PWM Pulse width modulation of Oscillator 3
Filter 1 CutoffMod Cutoff modulation of Filter 1
Filter 1 Env Envelope amount of Filter 1 cutoff
Filter 1 Velo Envelope velocity amount of Filter 1 cutoff
Filter 1 PanMod Panning modulation of Filter 1 output
Filter 2 CutoffMod Cutoff modulation of Filter 2
Filter 2 Env Envelope amount of Filter 2 cutoff
Filter 2 Velo Envelope velocity amount of Filter 2 cutoff
Filter 2 PanMod Panning modulation of Filter 2 output
Amplifier AmpMod Amplitude modulation
Amplifier Volume Output shaped by the Amplifier Envelope
Table 4: Pre-routed Modulation destinations
In addition to the pre-routed Fast Modulation destinations, the Q offers eight slots for individual
routing connections that are updated at the same speed level: the Fast Modulation Matrix. The
following table lists all available destinations for a Fast Modulation Matrix slot:
Fast Modulation Matrix destinations Description
Pitch Global pitch of all three Oscillators at once
O1 Pitch, O2 Pitch, O3 Pitch Pitch of Oscillator 1…3
O1 PW, O2 PW, O3 PW Pulse width of Oscillator 1…3
O1 FM, O2 FM, O3 FM FM Amount modulation of Oscillator 1…3
O1 Level, O2 Level, O3 Level Mixer level of Oscillator 1…3
O1 Bal., O2 Bal., O3Bal. Filter 1/2 Balance of Oscillator 1…3
RingLevel Mixer ring modulation level
Ring Bal. Filter 1/2 Balance of Oscillator 1
N/E Level Mixer level of Noise or External signal
N/E Bal. Filter 1/2 Balance of Noise or External signal
Routing Filter Routing
F1 Cutoff, F2 Cutoff Cutoff of Filter 1…2
F1 Reson., F2 Reson. Resonance of Filter 1…2
F1 FM, F2 FM FM Amount modulation of Filter 1…2
