Usage Features:
- Controls: The mower features hand lever control for steering and individual wheel drive, a Forward Speed Control (FSC) lever for setting maximum forward speed and neutral-park, and a blade clutch (PTO) lever for engaging/disengaging blades.
- Starting: Requires the operator to be in the seat, FSC in Neutral-Park, and blade clutch/parking brake disengaged. The throttle should be 1/4 to 1/2 open (towards FAST) for starting.
- Steering: Achieved by pulling back on the individual steering levers. Pushing forward on levers does not affect motion.
- Stopping: Pull steering levers to NEUTRAL, move FSC to NEUTRAL-PARK, disengage blade clutch, and turn ignition OFF.
- Adjustable Footrests: Footrests can be rotated upward and slid to a desired position, then locked into a notch.
- Cutting Height Adjustment: Adjusted from the operator's seat using the deck lift pedal and a hitch pin on the cutting height decal.
- Tilt-Up Deck: The mower deck can be tilted up for cleaning and maintenance, secured by a tilt bar and deck hook. It is crucial not to operate or move the tractor with the deck in the tilt-up position.
- Suspension Seat: Fully adjustable for back pitch, weight, lumbar support, and armrest inclination, enhancing operator comfort and safety.
- Safety Interlocks: Engine will not start unless FSC is in Neutral-Park and PTO is disengaged. Engine stops if the operator lifts off the seat with FSC out of Neutral-Park or PTO engaged.
- Warning Lights/Horn: Includes oil pressure, engine service, and over-temperature warning lights/horn to alert the operator to potential issues.
Maintenance Features:
- Maintenance Schedule Chart: Provides recommended service intervals (Daily, 25, 100, 200, 400 Hours, Yearly, 2 Years) for various components like engine oil, air cleaner, mower blades, drive belts, and transaxle fluid.
- Engine Oil: Check daily/every 8 hours. Change after initial 5-hour break-in, then every 100 hours (or 50 hours in dirty conditions). Oil filter change every 200 hours.
- Air Cleaner System: Inspect daily. Primary filter element service every 100 hours, replace yearly. Safety filter replace yearly. Emphasizes using only Kohler elements and avoiding over-servicing.
- Engine Cooling System: Clean air intake screen daily/every 8 hours. Inspect and clean cylinder head cooling fins every 100 hours.
- Mower Deck Cleaning: Clean grass buildup under the deck daily. The tilt-up deck feature facilitates this.
- Lubrication: Grease fittings and oil points (including deck spindle and PTO U-joints) every 25 hours.
- Drive Belts: Inspect every 25 hours for cracking or deterioration. Procedures for replacement of Engine/PTO, Ground Drive, and Deck Drive belts are detailed.
- Spark Plugs: Remove, inspect, clean, and reset gap every 200 hours. Replace yearly.
- Fuel Filter: Replace every 200 hours or when contamination is suspected.
- Mower Blades: Check for straightness, sharpness, and balance every 10 hours. Sharpening and replacement procedures are provided, emphasizing safety (e.g., never try to straighten a bent blade, always replace cracked blades).
- Transaxle Fluid: Check level every 25 hours. Change oil after initial 75-100 hour break-in, then every 400 hours. Oil filter change every 400 hours.
- Adjustments: Detailed instructions for adjusting steering lever position, steering handles, neutral function, full forward speed, straight tracking, FSC friction lock, blade clutch engagement/belt tension, idler pulley maximum travel, and blade brake band.
The manual strongly emphasizes reading all safety and operation instructions before operating the machine, wearing appropriate protective clothing, and performing maintenance as described to ensure safe and efficient operation and to protect the warranty.
