7 COMMUNICATION SMP - PC
7.1 Installing the hardware
The SMP requires installation of 1 driver for the 2 functions performed via the USB port:
• Downloading of memorised data to a PC.
• Updating of firmware.
When the apparatus is connected for the first time to PC via the USB port, the driver for
downloading data will be installed automatically.
7.1.1 USB driver installation
1) Connect the USB – mini USB cable to your PC and the SMP, respectively. Windows
will automatically detect the new device.
2) Do not allow Windows to search for the driver automatically.
3) Select “Install from a list or specific location”.
4) Select “D:\Drivers” as the location, where D is the name of the CD/DVD unit.
5) Wait until the driver has been correctly installed. If advice that is not a certified driver,
click on “Continue”
6) If the driver is correctly installed, when the SMP is connected to the PC it will appear
on the COM port list as ‘USB Serial Port’ (Start / Control panel / System / Hardware /
Device manager / Ports (COM & LTP))
Once the driver is installed, you can download data from the SMP at any time.
