When turning the lift truck
from a wide aisle into a nar-
row aisle, start the turn as
close to the opposite stock
pile as tailswing will permit.
This action permits the lift
truck to enter the narrow aisle
going straight ahead.
Travel with the forks trailing
whenever possible. Steering the truck is easier with the
forks trailing. Walk ahead of the truck and to one side.
Should the lift truck fail to stop for any reason, you (the
operator) will not be in the path of the lift truck.
Lead the truck with either side of the control handle. Oper-
ate the speed/direction control with one hand. Always look
in the direction of travel.
When traveling facing the load place both hands on the
steering handle. Keep your arm straight. If the lift truck
moves away from you, your stiff arm will force the handle
down into a braking position. If the lift truck moves toward
you, a stiff arm forces the handle up into the braking posi-
tion.
Load Handling
1. The capacity is the maximum load that the lift truck can
handle for the load condition shown on the nameplate. The
operator must know whether or not a load is within the
maximum capacity of the lift truck before the load is han-
dled. However, such factors as weak floors, uneven terrain,
special load handling attachments, or loads having a high
center of gravity can mean that the safe working load is
less than the capacity. When such conditions exist, the
