travel with the load or carriage in a raised position. Lift and
lower with the forks vertical or tilted slightly backward from
vertical.
WARNING
Keep yourself and all others clear of the lift and reach
mechanisms. Never allow anyone under or on the
forks. NEVER put hands, arms, head, or legs through
the mast or near the carriage or lift chains. This warn-
ing applies not only to the operator, but also to a
helper. A helper must not be near the load or lift mech-
anism while the operator is attempting to handle a
load. The lift mechanism has moving parts with close
clearances that can cause serious injury.
Manual Lowering
WARNING
Always verify that no one is under or near the lift mech-
anism or load during the manual lowering procedure.
Verify that there are no obstructions beneath the lift
mechanism or load. If the mast does not lower when
the manual lowering valve is activated, deactivate the
valve immediately and determine the cause.
WARNING
Failure to return the manual lowering screw to the full
clockwise position will cause the forks to lower unex-
pectedly.
A provision is provided on the lowering valve to allow man-
ual lowering of the forks if necessary. Manual lowering is
accomplished by turning the manual override screw coun-
terclockwise with a 7 mm wrench. In this position, the valve
will remain open. On the single hydraulic function truck, the
manual override screw is located on the back of the lower-
ing solenoid. See Figure 9. On the Auxiliary function truck,
the manual override screw is located under the lowering
solenoid block. See Figure 10. Turn the manual override
screw slowly counterclockwise until the forks begin to
