9. Software Support
Hybrid models support both recording and playback (although a few models are playback only). The models var-
iously use floppy disks, flash memory, and CD-ROMs as their media (although CD recording is not supported).
They support MIDI data; and CD-drive models also support audio data. Supported MIDI formats are SMF (stan-
dard MIDI files) and E-Seq (Yamaha proprietary format). The following tables show the playback and recording
support provided by each model.
Playable Software
E-Seq: Yamaha’s proprietary MIDI file format. All MIDI piano software marketed by Yamaha is in this
format. (Some non-piano software is SMF-based.)
SMF Format 0: Currently the most widely supported MIDI file format.
SMF Format 1: MIDI file format frequently used by sequencer software for personal computers.
Yamaha software playback (examples)
* In some cases, playback may not be in accordance with the
piano part’s original voices, reverb, and/or effects.
Compatibility with Software from Other Manufacturers
Software recorded in the formats indicated above is supported.
