14. Tone Generators
Two types of tone generator are used with hybrid models.
(1) Piano Tone Generator
• Sound is from sampling of the CF3S.
• Included on all silent models. Provides the piano sound when the piano is in silent mode.
• Installed on the MN sheet.
• Piano tone generators vary (by model) according to the amount of wave memory they possess, as
shown in the table below.

(2) XG Tone Generator
Starting with the MarkIIXG, Disklaviers also include an XG tone generator. The XG generator produces
the ensemble parts during ensemble playback and recording. It is also used to produce non-piano voices
from the keyboard (when the user selects such a voice by pressing the voice button on the controller).
Main features are as follows.
• 128 basic voices + 9 drums ← Keyboard plays various voices selected by voice button.
• The DSR1, MPX70, MX1Z, MPX1Z, and MarkIII also include variation voices. (480 voices + 11
drums). ← Keyboard plays various voices selected by voice button.
• Installed on sheet DB50 or DB51.
• On Disklaviers without silent function, this sheet is mounted in the controller. On Disklavier Silent
models, this sheet is mounted above the piano’s MN sheet.
