3. Disconnect the four-pin harness connector from
the carburetor heater relay and remove the relay.
4. Installation is the reverse of removal.
Thermo Switch Test
1. Disconnect the two-pin thermo switch connector
(B, Figure 75) from its harness mate.
CAUTION
The thermo switch is sensitive to
shock. Do not drop or bang the
thermo switch when removing and in
stalling it.
2. Remove the thermo switch damper (B, Figure
80) from its tang beneath the frame neck and re
-
move the thermo switch (A) from its damper.
3. Fill a beaker or pan with water and place it on a
stove or hot plate.
4. Suspend the thermo switch so it is immersed in
the water as shown in Figure 81.
NOTE
The thermometer and the thermo
switch must not touch the side or bot
tom of the container during this test. If
either does, test results will be inaccu
rate.
5. Suspend a thermometer in the water. Use a cook
-
ing or candy thermometer that is rated higher than
the test temperatures.
6. Set an ohmmeter to theR×1range.
7. Connect the ohmmeter positive test lead to the
brown/yellow terminal on the thermo sensor con
-
nector. Connect the negative test lead to the other
black/yellow terminal. See Figure 81.
8. Gradually heat the water and watch the continu
-
ity as the temperature rises.
a. While the temperature is less than 23 ± 3° C
(73 ± 5° F), there should be continuity be
-
tween the switch terminals.
b. When the temperature exceeds 23 ± 3° C (73
± 5° F), there should be no continuity be
-
tween the switch terminals.
