Troubleshooting Errors in Message Communication
3.4 Communication Broken off during Message Communication
3.4.1 When No Error Is in Effect
The table below shows the possible causes for a message communication break during the process of normal communi-
cation with no error indicated in the error status of the module detailed definition or in the process result of the message
function.
Module Model Condition Cause Remedy
Built-in Ethernet
or 218IF-02
Module
The communication mode of the
remote station connected to the Ether-
net Module is set to the fixed speed in
10Base-T/100Base-TX half-duplex,
and there are high loads on the net-
work.
Note: When connected via a hub,
the communication mode of
the hub is set to the fixed
speed in 10Base-T/
100Base-TX half-duplex.
There are high loads on the network
with frequent data collisions, and
transmission data from the local or
remote station has been lost.
(1) Set the communication mode of the
remote station to auto-negotiation
and carry out full-duplex communi-
cation.
(2) Segment the network using a switch-
ing hub to reduce the load on the net-
work.
(3) Adjust the transmission timing at the
master device so that multiple
devices will not start communication
simultaneously. This does not apply
when the non-procedural protocol is
specified as the protocol type.

net Module is set to the fixed speed in
10Base-T/100Base-TX full-duplex.
Note: When connected via a hub,
the communication mode of
the hub is set to the fixed
speed in 10Base-T/
100Base-TX full-duplex.
Communication between the Ether-
net Module and the remote station
cannot be carried out properly
because the communication modes
of the two stations are different, and
transmission data from the local or
remote station has been lost.
(1) Set the communication mode of the
remote station to auto-negotiation
and carry out full-duplex communi-
cation.
(2) Set the communication mode of the
remote station to the fixed speed in
10Base-T/100Base-TX half-duplex
and carry out communication.

Module
The COL LED at the front of the
Ethernet Module stays lit for a long
time (frequent collisions).
There are high loads on the network
with frequent data collisions, and
transmission data from the local or
remote station has been lost.
• Segment the network using a switching
hub to reduce the load on the network.
• Adjust the transmission timing at the
master device so that multiple devices
will not start communication simulta-
neously. This does not apply when the
non-procedural protocol is specified as
the protocol type.

communication.
