1.1FunctionsofFaultManagement
ThefaultmanagementsystemcollectsfaultinformationfromalltheNEsinthemanaged
networkinnearreal-time,suchasboards,links,databases,andservers,andthen
displaysthecollectedfaultinformationintheformatofalarmornotication.Thefault
managementsystemhelpsthesystemadministratorquicklylocateandresolvefaults
inthemanagednetwork.Italsoprovidestelecomoperators,networkmanagement
departments,andequipmentvendorswithcorrectandtimelyalarmdatatoensurestable
networkoperations.
1.2FaultIndication
Thefaultmanagementsystemindicatesafaultoreventoccurringinthenetworkinthe
formofalarmornotication.
1.2.1Alarm
Afaultisindicatedintheformofalarmwhenitpersistsandaffectsthereliabilityand
servicesofthesystem.Analarmwillbeclearedonlyafterthefaultisresolved.Immediate
troubleshootingisrequiredwhenalarmsoccur.
1.2.2Notification
Anoticationindicatesanon-repeatableorinstantaneousfaultoreventinthesystem,for
example,boardresetandsignalingoverload.Suchafaultoreventisnormallycausedby
asuddenenvironmentchangeorotheraccidentalfactors.Nospecialhandlingisrequired
becausethefaultoreventcausinganoticationcanbeautomaticallyhandledbythe
system.However,afrequently-reportednoticationrequirestroubleshooting.
