7. Press the plunger in as far as it
will go and release it.
8. Press the opening of the AST
cap rmly against a eshy area
on the alternate site.
9. Keep steady pressure on the
area and press and release the
plunger to obtain a blood drop.
Don’t be afraid to apply
pressure to the area with the
lancing device to assist the ow
of blood. You can watch the
blood drop form through the
AST cap. The blood drop should
be approximately this size:
If the drop is smaller, release
the pressure for a few seconds,
without removing the lancing
device from the puncture site.
Then re-apply pressure on the
lancing device until you get a
sufcient blood drop.

NOTE
If the blood drop is too small, reapply pressure to get a sufcient blood drop.
