Stop the priming
The priming process can be stopped at any time by pressing any key. Your insulin
pump returns to STOP.
Caution: Air bubbles in the cartridge, adapter or the infusion set cause
the infusion of air instead of insulin. Your body does not receive the re-
quired amount of insulin. AnError E4: Occlusion”may be delayed. Remove
these bubbles while filling the cartridge and/or priming the infusion set.
Make sure the infusion set is not connected to your body.
Cold insulin may release air when warmed. Use only insulin at room tem-
perature when filling the cartridge and priming the infusion set.
Inspect the cartridge, adapter and the infusion set for air bubbles at least
every three hours during the day and before you go to sleep. Remove any
air bubbles and, if necessary, change system components.
4.6 Select and prepare an infusion site
Caution: Your insulin pump, sterile products and accessories should be
used for the first time in the presence of your doctor and/or your health
care team. Regular medical examinations are required. Always follow the
instructions given by your doctor and/or your health care team and the in-
structions for use of the sterile products and accessories you are using.
Caution: If you detect blood in your infusion set, you have most likely
nicked a blood vessel causing the risk of an occlusion of the infusion set.
Select a new infusion site and replace the infusion set.
Site selection
Your health care team will help you select your infusion site areas according to a
planned site rotation pattern. You should avoid your waistline, bones, recent sites,
bruises and sores. Make sure to choose an infusion site at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) away
from the navel and previous infusion sites.
Site preparation
Proper site preparation is essential to reduce the risks of infection. Your health care
team will give you site preparation guidelines, such as:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Wipe the infusion site with an antiseptic and let it dry
completely.
3. Make sure your insulin pump is in STOP.
4. Insert the infusion set according to the corresponding instruc-
tions for use.
Use transparent site dressing and a safety loop, if necessary.
