Removing and Replacing Electrodes
When you first set up your GTA, the electrodes that connect to the
graphite tube will appear clean, shiny and smooth. However, over
time, the electrodes may become pitted or eroded, and you may see a
drop in precision and begin to experience the ‘Tube fault' error on
new tubes. You should then replace the electrodes.
Both electrodes are press-fitted into their housings. A tool kit is
provided, which enables you to extract and replace the electrodes.
NOTE
Electrode replacement is a time-consuming procedure. We recommend that you
have an Agilent field service engineer perform the procedure. However, if you
wish to change them yourself, follow the instructions on Pages 58 and 62.
When you are removing and replacing electrodes, you must take the
following precautions to avoid poor analytical performance or
damage to the electrodes:
Replace both electrodes—never replace one only.
Remove the electrode on the right first, then the left electrode.
Always replace the left electrode first, then the right electrode.
Remove both electrodes before attempting to fit replacements.
Use the tooling exactly as described in these instructions.
When passing the draw bolt through the new electrodes, make
sure that the electrode is not damaged by the threaded portion of
the bolt.
Ensure that the electrode is inserted the right way around, as
described in these instructions.
