Usage Features

Basic Operations:

  • Switch On/Off: Turn the POWER/VOLUME dial clockwise to power on and counter-clockwise to power off.
  • Adjusting Volume: Press and release the PF2 key to monitor white noise, then turn the POWER/VOLUME dial to adjust the audio level.
  • Channel Selection: Turn the channel selector knob to choose the desired channel. The transceiver will announce the selected channel number.
  • Group Selection: If different groups are programmed, press and hold [PF2] for 2 seconds to announce the current group number, then turn the selector knob to choose a group. This function can be enabled/disabled via programming software.
  • Receiving: When a channel is active, the LED GREEN light illuminates, and you hear the voice from the transmitting party. Higher squelch levels or signaling features may prevent hearing calls.
  • Transmitting: Press and release [PF2] to monitor the channel. Press and hold the [PTT] key to speak into the microphone (MIC), keeping it 2.5-5cm from your lips. The red LED indicates transmission.
  • Emergency Alarm Function: Press the emergency alarm key for over 1 second to activate. It generates an alarm sound and transmits alarm beeps. Turn off/on or press the key again to exit. (Requires PC pre-programming).

Advanced Operations (Programmable via Dealer Software):

  • Call 1/Call 2 DTMF: Transmits prestored and selected DTMF signaling.
  • Monitor: Ignores CTCSS/DCS decode to monitor all incoming signals. Pressing the programmed key enters/exits monitor state.
  • Momentary Monitor: Similar to Monitor, but activated by pressing and holding the programmed key.
  • Temporary Deletion of Interfering Channel from Scanning: Temporarily skips an interfering or occupied channel from the scan list.
  • Squelch Levels Enquiry: Announces the current squelch level.
  • Squelch Levels Setup: Sets the squelch level.
  • Scan: Automatically searches busy channels. When a matching signal is received, the transceiver stays on that channel until the signal disappears.
  • Scramble Setup (Encryption): Provides a simple analog scrambling (inversion scrambling) for confidential communications.
  • Squelch Off: Opens the squelch to hear background noise and weaker signals.
  • Temporary Squelch Off: Similar to Squelch Off, but activated by pressing and holding the programmed key.
  • Talk Around: Reverses encode/decode settings, allowing direct communication without a repeater.
  • Frequency Reverse: Switches the current receiving frequency to the transmitting channel's, and interchanges CTCSS/DCS encode/decode settings.
  • Current Channel Power Enquiry: Announces the current output power setting of the selected channel.
  • TX Power Switch: Changes the output power setting of the selected channel.
  • Whisper: Activates a whisper function for talking in lower voices in quiet places.
  • Voice Compander: Reduces background noise and enhances audio clarity. (Requires compander-compatible radios for all users).
  • Battery Capacity Enquiry: Announces the current battery level.
  • Current Channel Enquiry: Announces the current channel number.
  • Channel Selector Knob Lockout: Locks the channel selector knob to prevent accidental changes.
  • CTCSS/DCS Encode/Decode: Enables CTCSS/DCS settings for selective communication.
  • Optional Signaling: Similar to CTCSS/DCS, offering Selective Call, Group Call, All Call, PTT ID, and Remotely stun and Waken.
  • Wide/Narrow Band Setup: Sets bandwidth to 25KHz (wide), 20KHz (normal), or 12.5KHz (narrow).
  • Busy Channel Lockout (BCLO): Restricts transmission when a signal is received. Options include BCL (carrier wave lockout), BTL (CTCSS/DCS tone lockout), or OFF.
  • Signaling Relations Setup: Sets relations between CTCSS/DCS and DTMF signals (AND/OR logic).
  • Channel Scan Skip: Allows users to mark channels to be skipped during scanning.
  • TX OFF: Disables the [PTT] key, making the unit a receiver only.
  • Battery Save Setup: Reduces battery consumption by switching power ON/OFF at a fixed ratio during inactivity.
  • Time-out Timer (TOT): Automatically stops transmission if continuous transmission exceeds a set time.
  • Time-Out Timer Pre-Alarm: Warns the user before TOT stops transmission.
  • TOT Re-transmitting Time Setup: Sets a penalty time before resuming normal operation after TOT has stopped transmission.
  • VOX Function: Enables voice-activated transmission without pressing the [PTT] key (requires an optional earphone-microphone).
  • Priority Scan Setup: Allows setting two priority channels for scanning.
  • Resume Factory Default: Resets all settings to factory defaults. This function may be prohibited by dealer programming.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Charging: The battery is not fully charged at the factory and must be charged before use. Initial charges or charges after extended storage may not reach full capacity immediately. Use only Alinco's designated charger.
    • Charging Procedure: Plug the AC adaptor into an outlet and the charger. Insert the battery or transceiver into the charger. The indicator lights orange (1s), then twinkles red (pre-charging), then solid red (charging). A full charge takes approximately 4 hours, indicated by a green light (when the transceiver is off).
    • Charging Precautions: Do not short-circuit the charger. Charge between 5°C and 40°C. Switch off the transceiver before charging. Do not interrupt charging. Do not recharge a fully charged battery. Do not charge wet batteries/transceivers.
  • Battery Storage: Store batteries at 50% discharge in a cool, dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight. Remove the battery pack from the radio when not in use.
  • Cleaning: Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe off dirt and condensation. Do not use thinner or benzene.
  • Disposal: Check with local waste officials for proper recycling or disposal of electronics, battery packs, and accessories.
  • Repair: Do not open the unit or accessories without permission. Consult your local dealer for service and assistance. Unauthorized modification voids warranty.
  • Spare Parts Guarantee: Alinco guarantees the supply of minimum-necessary spare parts (battery-packs, components, mechanical parts) for at least 5 years after the product's termination, except in cases of accidents beyond control.
