Maintenance after Fault Condition
Maintain the MCC after a
Fault Condition
The opening of the short circuit protective device (such as fuses or circuit
breakers) in a properly coordinated motor branch circuit is an indication of a
fault condition in excess of operating overload and must be corrected.
Fault conditions can cause damage to control equipment. When a fault occurs,
follow this procedure.
1. De-energize the MCC.
2. Investigate the cause of the fault and inspect all equipment thoroughly
per NEMA Standards publication ICS 2.3-1995, Instructions for the
handling installation operator and maintenance of MCCs not rated
more than 600V, Section 11, Maintenance after a Fault has Occurred.
3. Make necessary repairs to units, components and structures as required,
prior to reenergizing the equipment.
Be sure that replacement parts are suitably rated for the application.
An insulation resistance test can be required. Refer to Chapter 7
.
ATTENTION: Make sure that the MCC remote power sources are
disconnected and that the respective disconnects are locked in the OFF/O
position.
