Why is my Allen-Bradley Desktop unable to read a label?
    • J
      jesusbradleyJul 27, 2025
Several factors can prevent your Allen-Bradley Desktop from reading labels. Check that the labels meet quality specifications. Ensure the decoder settings match your application by verifying character verification, code type, code length and the minimum number of reads. Also, examine cables and connections for looseness, and confirm you're using the correct wand technique.

What to do if the Allen-Bradley Desktop POWER ON indicator does not light?
    • C
      Cynthia DominguezAug 3, 2025
If the POWER ON indicator isn't lit, first, ensure the decoder is turned ON using the switch on the rear of the unit. Check the power cable connection to both the power source and the decoder, replacing the cable if defective. Also, inspect the fuse and replace it if blown. Finally, confirm that voltage is present at the service outlet.

What to do if my Allen-Bradley Desktop has no communication with the host computer?
    • S
      Sabrina PetersAug 8, 2025
If there's no communication with the host computer or display terminal, verify the decoder, host, and display terminal communication parameters. Check that the communication cable is securely connected. If the cable is improperly fabricated, refabricate or replace it. You may also need to disconnect or drive CTS ON if the host port CTS is driven OFF.

How to fix no laser beam emitted from Allen-Bradley Desktop laser scanner?
    • L
      Linda PhillipsAug 14, 2025
If no laser beam is emitted, first ensure that a Disable Decoding command hasn't been sent from the host; if so, send an Enable Decoding command. Then, check the laser scanner timeout value; if it's set to 0, change it to 120 using the command Esc – y 120 V. Verify that the decoder isn't in single read mode awaiting an Enable Next Read command, and check the host computer’s protocol setup to ensure RTS/CTS Handshaking configuration is compatible between the Decoder and host. If all else fails, replace the scanner cable or the scanner itself, as they may be defective.

What to do if Allen-Bradley Desktop POWER ON indicator is lit, but the laser scanner doesn't operate?
    • G
      gavinramosAug 20, 2025
If the POWER ON indicator is lit, but the laser scanner or wand isn't working, start by checking the scanner cable and connection. If the cable is damaged, replace the wand or laser scanner.
