Note: Due to the structure of Interleaved 2 of 5, an even number of
characters must be printed in the bar code symbol. An even number of data
characters will be transmitted except if check character verification is on and
check character verification is suppressed. In this case, the check character is
stripped off and an odd number of characters will be transmitted.
