11.1WELDINGONVEHICLE
Observethefollowingprecautionswhenweldingonthevehicle:
•DisconnectthewiringharnessesfromtheTCM.
•DisconnecttheTCMpowerandgroundcircuitsfromthebattery,and
anyelectroniccontrolgroundwiresconnectedtotheframeorchassis.
•Donotconnectweldingcablestoelectroniccontrolcomponents.
•Donotweldonelectroniccontrolcomponents.
•Coverelectroniccontrolcomponentsandwiringtoprotectthemfrom
hotsparks,heat,etc.
11.2PAINTINGONVEHICLE
11.2.1ElectrostaticPainting.Ifthevehiclechassisorbodyispaintedusing
anelectrostaticpaintingprocess,electricalvoltagemustnotbedischarged
throughtheTCM.Topreventthispossibility,Allisonrecommendsinstallingthe
TCMaftertheelectrostaticpaintprocessiscomplete.IftheTCMisinstalled
priortoelectrostaticpainting,makesure:
•theTCMisnotpainted.
•theelementsbeingpaintedareproperlyandcontinuouslygrounded
duringtheentirepaintingprocess.
NOTE:AllisonTransmissionisnotresponsibleforTCMdamage
resultingfromimpropergroundingduringelectrostaticpaintingof
thevehicle.
Duringelectrostaticpainting,thepaintdropletsreceiveanelectrostaticcharge
attractingthemtothegroundedsurfaces.Voltagesatthesprayguncan
exceedseveralthousandvolts.Thechargewhichbuildsuponanimproperly
groundedchassisorbodycanbedischargedthroughtheTCM,resultingin
damagetotheTCM.
