5.8.1.1COLDCHECKPROCEDURE
NOTE:Thecorrectuidlevelcannotbedeterminedunlessthe
transmissionisinalevelposition.
CAUTION:DONOTstarttheengineuntilthepresenceofsufcient
transmissionuidhasbeenconrmed.Removethetransmissionuid
dipstickandbesurethestaticuidlevelisneartheHOTFULLmark.
WARNING:Ifyouleavethevehicleandtheengineisrunning,the
vehiclecanmoveunexpectedlyandyouorotherscouldbeinjured.If
youmustleavetheenginerunning,DONOTLEAVEthevehicleuntil
youhavecompletedallofthefollowingprocedures:
•PutthetransmissioninN(Neutral).
•Besuretheengineisatlowidle(500–800rpm).
•Applytheparkingandemergencybrakesandmakesurethey
areproperlyengaged.
•Chockthewheelsandtakeotherstepsnecessarytokeepthe
vehiclefrommoving.
ACOLDCHECKdeterminesifthetransmissionhasenoughuidtobe
operatedsafelyuntilaHOTCHECKcanbemade.CompleteaCOLDCHECK
afterthepresenceoftransmissionuidhasbeenconrmedwiththeengineoff.
Thetransmissionuidtemperatureshouldbebetween16-49°C(61-120°F).
NOTE:Alwayscheckuidlevelwiththedipstickintheunscrewedor
looseposition.
CompleteaCOLDCHECKprocedureusingthedipstickasfollows:
1.Movethevehicletoalevelsurface,putthetransmissioninN(Neutral)
andsettheparkingbrake.
2.Withtheengineidling(500–800rpm),shifttoD(Drive)andthentoR
(Reverse)toclearairfromthehydrauliccircuits.
3.Runtheengineatidle(500–800rpm)inN(Neutral)foraboutone
minute.
4.Cleandebrisfromaroundtheendofthelltubebeforeremovingthe
dipstick.
5.Removethedipstickandwipeitclean.
