9.1. Maintenance of the electrical system

» Check all terminals for corrosion - corroded terminals and connectors should be replaced or
thoroughly cleaned.
» Tighten all terminals securely and spray them with light marine preservative oil.
» Check if all cables are securely fastened and that there are no signs of chafe or defects.
» Havecorrodedterminalsreplacedbyacompetentperson.
Caution
» Topreventarcingordamagetothealternator,alwaysdisconnectbatterycablesbeforedo-
ing any work on the engine‘s electrical system.
» Power feeds for accessory equipment must not be taken from the voltmeter terminals.
Warning
» Work on electrical wiring can create shock hazards or sparks.
» Alwaysdisconnectpowersources
andshutoffbatteryswitch,breakersand/orpullfuses
before checking electrical wiring or connectors.
