to the Vertical Speed mode, to allow
modification of the descent.
For
most
aircraft types the target descent rate
is between
1500
and
2000
fpm. Con-
sult the aircraft flight manual supple-
ment for exact values.
Engaging the Descent mode also
activates Altitude Select, provided that
a lower altitude is displayed in the alti-
tude preselect window of the
KAV
485.
Indicated Airspeed Hold Mode (IAS)
Engaging the Indicated Airspeed
Hold Mode causes the flight director
to command pitch attitudes to main-
tain the indicated airspeed current
upon selection. Airspeed commands
may be altered through use of the au-
topilot Vertical Trim rocker switch at
the rate
of
two knots per click or one
knot per second.
As a safety feature, the flight di-
rector automatically reverts to Indica-
ted Airspeed Hold whenever the air-
craft exceeds a maximum speed
stored for that aircraft. The flight di-
rector will command pitch attitudes to
reduce indicated airspeed to
Vmo
and
then maintain that airspeed.
Vertical Speed (VS)
In the Vertical Speed mode the
flight director commands pitch atti-
tudes to maintain the vertical speed
selection displayed by the KAV
485
AltitudeNertical Speed Indicator. In
the absence of a preselected vertical
speed, engaging the mode will cause
the flight director to command a climb
or
descent at the rate current upon
selection. In addition, vertical speed
commands may
be
modified through
use of the autopilot Vertical Trim at
the rate of
100
fpm per "click" during
momentary trim operation, or
100
fpm
per second during continuous trim
operation. The VS select knob chang-

the vertical speed scale. Using the
vertical trim switch

the VS select

Go-Around Mode (GA)
Pressing the Go-Around Push-
button causes the flight director to
command a nose-up, wings-level atti-
tude, and disengages the autopilot
and any active horizontal or vertical
flight director tracking modes. The
exact pitch attitude commanded is
selected for each aircraft type during
KFC
400
certification. The autopilot
and any horizontal tracking mode may
be subsequently reengaged without
cancelling Go-Around.
