VNAV
Descent to
Arrival
Fix
1.
Three different methods
of
VNAV
operation utilizing the capabilities
of
the
KNS
660XFC 400 may be used
depicted by vertical profiles
A,
6,
and
C.
In this example the aircraft is
currently at
23,000
ft.
and has been
requested to cross HOOZE intersec-
tion at 6,000 ft.
to provide
VNAV
descents. They are
m
1A.
The first method is flown by
verifying that HOOZE
is
the current
“TO” flight plan waypoint and selecting
6,000 ft on the
KAV
485. The descent
angle may be viewed on the
KCI 310/A
or the EHSl or on the
KNS
660’s
NAV
2
page. The
KCI 310/A
will display ANG
to
indicate
the vertical deviation indicator is dis-
playing angle while the EHSI will
display
ANG VNV.
Then push the
VNAV
button
on
the
KMS
446. The
existing vertical mode will be disen-
gaged,
VNAV
will engage, start the
aircraft’s descent and altitude arm will
be engaged in order to capture 6,000
ft.
at HOOZE.
1B.
The second method assumes the
crew has decided to reach 6,000 ft
prior to reaching HOOZE. The
KNS
660’s
NAV
2
page is selected,
HOOZE is verified as the WPT, 6,000
ft
is selected either on the
KNS
660 or
the
KAV
485 and an offset
(-8.0
NM)
is selected on the
KNS
660. Negative
off
sets cause altitude capture before
the waypoint, positive offsets cause
altitude capture after waypoint
passage.
At
this time the actual
descent angle may be viewed.
If
it
is
acceptable, the
VNAV
button on the
KMS
446 is pushed, starting the
descent and engaging altitude arm in
order to capture
6,000
ft
8.0
NM
prior
to
reaching
HOOZE.
