E.2 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The Matrox MGA Millennium-II Graphics Card installs in an AGP slot. The card is AGP-
compliant. Operation of the AGP bus is almost identical to the PCI bus but operates at Host bus
speed (i.e., in systems with the Pentium II 233, 266, or 300 processor the AGP bus operates at 66
MHz). This graphics card is based on the MGA 2164W graphics controller and comes standard
with four megabytes of WRAM for the frame buffer (Figure E-2). The RAMDAC functions are
provided by the Texas Instruments TVP 3026 component.

Matrox MGA Millennium-II Graphics Card Block diagram
The Matrox Millennium-II Graphics Card includes the following features:
Hardware-accelerated true-color mode support
AGP 1X operation
Hardware-assisted texture mapping
Aligned BitBLT support
Standard 4-MB frame buffer with support for up to 16 megabytes of WRAM
250 MHz Phase-Locked-Loop (PLL) pixel clock (supports 1920x1200 at 75 Hz)
Improved 3D acceleration over earlier generation (2064W) controller
The video BIOS is contained in a flash ROM component allowing easy field updating if required.
The Windows RAM (WRAM) used by the Millennium-II card provides high performance for full
motion video requirements. By handling most block transfers (BLTs) internally, the WRAM
relieves the graphics controller from having to provide direct support for most video and drawing
tasks. The standard of four megabytes of WRAM is expandable by adding a 4-MB WRAM
module (Compaq kit # 270831-B21) or 12-MB WRAM module (Compaq kit # 270833-B21),
increasing the total graphics memory to twelve megabytes. Other WRAM modules from Matrox
may also be used for frame buffer expansion. Adding WRAM increases the resolution and color
depth capability of the graphics controller (refer to Table E-2).
