Correcting Malfunctions
If a solution is not readily apparent, use the table below to help identify and correct
specific malfunctions. After you correct the malfunction, verify that the generator
completes the self-test as described in Setting Up the Generator on page 4-3.
Situation Possible Cause Solution
Abnormal neuromuscular
stimulation (stop surgery
immediately).
Metal-to-metal sparking. Check all connections to the
generator, patient return
electrode, and active
electrodes.
Can occur during coag. Use a lower power setting for
the Fulgurate and the Spray
modes or select the Desiccate
mode.
Abnormal 50–60 Hz leakage
currents.
Refer to your Biomedical
Engineering Department or
contact a Covidien
Representative for assistance.
Generator does not
respond when turned on.
Disconnected power cord or
faulty wall outlet.
Check power cord
connections (generator and
wall outlet). Connect the
power cord to a functional
outlet.
Faulty power cord. Replace the power cord.
Fuse drawer is open or fuses
are blown.
Close the fuse drawer. Replace
the blown fuse(s). Refer to the
Force FX Electrosurgical
Generator C Service Manual.
Internal component
malfunction.
Use a backup generator. Refer
to your Biomedical
Engineering Department or
contact a Covidien
Representative for assistance.
