Donot pushdownon the handlebarsto try tomakethe tillertill more
deeply.This preventsthewheelsfromholdingthetillerbackandcan
allowthe tinesto rapidlypropelthetiller,whichcouldresultin lossof
control,propertydamage,orpersonalinjury.
Tomoveforward:
1. Forforwardmotionof thewheelsusethe gearselectionhandle
andforpowertothe tinespulltheclutchcontrolupagainstthe
handlebar.
2. Whentilling,letthe wheelspullthemachinewhilethetinesdig.
Walkslowlybehindthetillerallowingit tomoveat its ownpace
whilekeepinga securegripon the handlebarwithyourelbows
flexed.
3. Releasethe bailto stopthewheelsandtines.
Tomoveinreverse:(Do nottill in reverse)
1. ReleasetheClutchControl.Then liftthehandlebaruntilthe tines
areoff theground.
2. Pullbackonthe gearselectionhandle,andwalkbackwardswith
themachine.
NOTE:In reversemode,thetineswillreverserotation.
TURNING THE TILLER
1. Practiceturningthetillerin a level,openarea.Beverycarefulto
keepyourfeetandlegsawayfromthe tines.
2. To begina turn,liftthehandlebarsuntilthe tinesareoutof the
groundandtheengineandtinesarebalancedoverthewheels.
3. Withthe tillerbalanced,pushsidewayson thehandlebartosteer
in thedirectionofthe turn.Afterturning,slowlylowerthe tinesinto
thesoil toresumetilling.
SETTING THE DEPTH
Tillingdepthiscontrolledbythedepthstakewhichcan be adjustedto
fivedifferentsettings.Adjustthesideshieldsasyou adjustthedepth
stake.
• Whenusingthe tillerfor thefirsttime,usethesecondadjustment
holefromthetop (1"of tillingdepth).
• Whenbreakingup sodandfor shallowcultivation,usethesetting
whichgives1"oftillingdepth (secondholefromthetop). Place
thesideshieldsintheirlowestposition.
• Forfurtherdepth,raisethedepthstakeandside shieldsandalso
makeoneor twomorepassesoverthearea.
• Whentillingloosesoil,thedepthstakemayberaisedtoits
highestposition(usebottomadjustmenthole)to givethe deepest
tillingdepth.Raisethe sideshieldsto theirhighestposition.
• Totransporttiller,lowerthedepthstake(use topadjustment
hole).
Toadjustthedepthstake,removetheclevispinandcotterpin. Move
thedepthstaketo thedesiredsettingandsecurewiththeclevispin
andcotterpin.SeeFigure14.
