CheckEngine Oil
1. Checkoilbeforeeachuse.Stopengineandwaitseveralminutes
beforecheckingoillevel.Withengineonlevelground,theoilmust
betoFULLmarkondipstick.
2. RefertotheAssemblysectionofthismanualforinstructionson
checkingtheoil.
Change Engine Oil
Referto theviscositychart(Figure24)for oil recommendations.
Donotover-fill.Usea4-stroke,oran equivalenthighdetergent,
premiumqualitymotoroilcertifiedtomeetorexceedU.S.auto-
mobilemanufacturer'srequirementsfor serviceclassificationofa
minimumlevelSFor SG(higherletterratingsareacceptablesuch
asSJ, SLand SMgrades).Motoroil will displaythis designation
onthecontainer.

shortentheengine'sservicelife.
Changeengineoil afterthefirstfiveto eighthoursof operation,
andeveryfifty hoursoreveryseasonthereafter.Changeoil every
twentyfivehourswhenoperatingengineunderheavyloadorin
hightemperatures.
To Drain Oil
Beforetippingengineor equipmenttodrainoil, drainfuelfromtank by
runningengineuntilfuel tankisempty.
Usedmotoroil maycauseskincancerifrepeatedlyleftincontactwith
theskinfor prolongedperiods.Althoughthis isunlikelyunlessyou
handleusedoil ona daily basis,itisstilladvisableto thoroughlywash
yourhandswithsoapandwateras soonaspossibleafter handling
usedoil.
2. WithengineOFFbut stillwarm,disconnectsparkplugwireand
keepitawayfromsparkplug.
3. Placea funnelunderthe oildraintoavoidgettingoil onthetiller
frame.SeeFigure25.

4. Removeoil drainendcap locatedatthe baseof theengine,and
drainoil intoanappropriatereceptacle.See Figure25.
Usedoil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly
IDo notdiscardwithhouseholdwaste.Checkwithyour localauthori-
lties or SearsServiceCenterforsafedisposal/recyclingfacilities.
5. Replaceandtightenthe oildrainendcap.
6. Whenengineisdrainedofall oil, placeenginelevel.Refillwith
approximately20oz.offreshoil. Fillto FULLlineondipstick.Do
notoverfill.RefertoCheckingandAddingOilinthismanuals
Assemblysection.
7. Wipeoff anyexcessoil onthe frameandengine.
8. Replacesparkplugwire beforestarting.
Transmission Lubrication
Thetransmissionispre-lubricatedandsealedatthefactory.It requires
no checkingunlessthetransmissionisdisassembled.Tofill with
grease,laythe righthalfof thetransmissionon itsside,add22ounces
of Benalene920grease,andassemblethelefthalf toit. Seean
authorizedSearsServiceCentertohavethetransmissionlubricatedor
to scheduleservice,simplycontactSearsat 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
1. Drainthefuelfromthetankby runningtheengineuntilthefuel
tankisempty.Besurefuelfill capis secure.
