toexplainthe EmissionControlSystemWarrantyonyour modelyear2000and
latersmalloff-roadengine(SORE).InCalifornia,newsmalloff-roadengines
mustbedesigned,builtand equippedto meettheState'sstringentanti-smog
standards.Elsewherein theUnitedStates,newnon-road,spark-ignition
enginescertifiedfor modelyear 1997and latermustmeetsimilarstandardsset
forthbythe U.S.EPA.Searsmustwarranttheemissioncontrolsystemonyour
YEAR1997ANDLATERENGINESWHICHARE PURCHASEDANDUSED
ELSEWHEREINTHEUNITEDSTATES(ANDAFTERJANUARY1,2001 IN
CANADA).
Control Defects Warranty Statement
enginefor theperiodsoftime listedbelow,providedtherehasbeennoabuse,
neglector impropermaintenanceof your smalloff-roadengine.Youremis-
sioncontrolsystemincludespartssuchas thecarburetor,aircleaner,ignition
system,mufflerand catalyticconverter.Also includedmaybeconnectorsand
otheremissionrelatedassemblies.Wherea warrantableconditionexists,Sears
will repairyoursmalloff-roadengineatnocostto youincludingdiagnosis,parts
and labor.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage
Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrolpartsdefects
fora periodofone year,subjectto provisionssetforthbelow.Ifanycovered
Owner's Warranty
Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,youare responsiblefor theperformanceof
therequiredmaintenancelistedin yourOperatingand MaintenanceInstruc-
tions.Searsrecommendsthatyouretainallyourreceiptscoveringmaintenance
onyoursmalloff-roadengine,butSearscannotdenywarrantysolelyfor the
lackof receiptsorfor yourfailuretoensuretheperformanceof allscheduled
maintenance.As the smalloff-roadengineowner,youshouldhoweverbe
awarethat Searsmaydenyyouwarrantycoverageifyour smalloff-roadengine
ora parthasfaileddueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-
parton yourengineis defective,the partwillbe repairedorreplacedbySears.
Responsibilities
provedmodifications.Youareresponsiblefor presentingyour smalloff-road
engineto anAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras soonas a problemexists.The
undisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedina reasonableamountof
time,notto exceed30days.Ifyouhaveanyquestionsregardingyourwarranty
rightsand responsibilities,youshouldcontacta SearsService Representative
at 1-800-469-4663.Theemissionwarrantyisa defectswarranty.Defectsare
judgedonnormalengineperformance.The warrantyis notrelatedto an in-use
emissiontest.

ThefollowingarespecificprovisionsrelativetoyourEmissionControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.ItisinadditiontotheSearsenginewarrantyfornon-regulated
enginesfoundin theOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.

Coverageunderthis warrantyextendsonlytothe parts listedbelow(the
emissioncontrolsystemsparts)tothe extentthese partswere presenton
theenginepurchased.

2. Lengthof Coverage
Searswarrantsto the initialownerand eachsubsequentpurchaserthat
theWarrantedPartsshallbefree fromdefectsin materialsandworkman-
shipwhich causedthefailureof the WarrantedPartsfor a periodofone
yearfromthe datethe engineis deliveredto a retailpurchaser.
3. NoCharge
Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill beperformedat no
chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlaborwhichleadstothe
determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,ifthe diagnosticworkis
performedatanAuthorizedSearsServiceDealer.Foremissionswarranty
servicecontactyournearestAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras listedin
the "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn
Mowers,"orsimilarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshall befiled in accordancewiththe provisionsofthe
SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor
failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare notoriginalSearspartsor because
ofabuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsisnotliableto coverfailuresof Warranted
Partscausedby theuseof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
AnyWarrantedPartwhichis notscheduledfor replacementas required
maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect
of"repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedas to defectsfor the
warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich isscheduledfor replacement
as requiredmaintenanceshallbewarrantedas to defectsonly forthe
periodoftime upto the firstscheduledreplacementfor that part.Any
replacementpartthat isequivalentin performanceand durabilitymay
beusedin the performanceofanymaintenanceor repairs.The owneris
responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin
the SearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextendto thefailureofanyenginecomponents
causedbythe failureofanyWarrantedPartstill underwarranty.
