On their own, soft starters cannot run motors in reverse direction at full
speed. However, an arrangement of forward and reverse contactors
can be used to provide the same eff ect.
Some soft starters off er a part speed function which can run the
motor at slow speed in either the forward or reverse direction, without
a reversing contactor. Reverse operation is limited to short periods at
a fi xed slow speed.
