INDEXES AND SOFTWARE VERSION NUMBERS
Software History
This manual is for Elgar Plus software version 4.4x.
Version 4.4x differs from 4.3x versions by adding a software license feature.
IMPORTANT! Updating to v4.4x from v4.3x or earlier is normally carried out by dCS
Distributors, as it is necessary to install a license into the unit after updating
to restore normal operation.
Version 4.3x differs from 4.2x versions as follows:
In PCM mode, Elgar Plus can now lock to an external word clock that is at an
exact multiple of the sample rate. For example:
with a data rate of 96kS/s, the word clock may be at 32, 48 or 96kHz
(previously 96kHz only).
with Dual AES data at 176.4kS/s, the word clock may be at 44.1 or 88.2kHz
(previously 88.2kHz only).
with Dual AES data at 192kS/s, the word clock may be at 32, 48 or 96kHz
(previously 96kHz only).
Note that DSD mode still requires a 44.1kHz word clock only.
Version 4.2x differs from 4.1x versions as follows:
Elgar Plus responds to status messages sent over the 1394 interface from a
Verdi (v1.2x) to allow automatic switching between SACD and CD modes.
This also allows the Elgar Plus to report any cabling faults.
1394 Src menu deleted – 1394 sources are selected with the Input button
or automatically selected by a Verdi.
Clock menu deleted. In Master mode, Word Clock output is 44.1kHz only.
After a Factory reset, the inputs are set up to match the other dCS units in
the system.
Part No menu deleted.
1394 operation generally improved, system messages changed.
(Upgrader’s note: units manufactured before May 2001 will require a hardware
update to support these extra features.)
Version 4.1x differs from 4.0x versions as follows: menu order rearranged,
improved IEEE 1394 interface behaviour, Reset Sync menu added, Dual AES
Auto mode improved at 176.4kS/s, more settings are stored at power down.
Version 4.0x differs from 3.1x versions in supporting DSD at 2.822MS/s over
the IEEE 1394 interface.
(Upgrader’s note: units manufactured before April 2001 will require a hardware
update to support these extra features.)
Version 3.1x differs from 3.0x versions in supporting Wordclock Output and
Master mode, a second RCA input, Power switch function added to Standby
button and software updates from a CD.
(Upgrader’s note: units manufactured before February 2001 will require a
hardware update to support these extra features.)
3.0x versions differ from 2.xx versions in supporting the features added to
upgrade from Elgar to Elgar Plus: SDIF / DSD interface, REC OUT, SUC
connector, Word Clock, PLL menu item, Check routines, long menu time-out
delay, Dual AES Lock & Auto modes and Factory settings feature.
