Data Domain cabinet
This section provides an overview of data domain cabinet.
DLm8500 can have a DD6800, DD9300, or DD9800 back-end. The Data Domain
cabinet contains:
l
One Data Domain controller
l
ES30/DS60 enclosures
If DLm8500 systems (DLm 5.0 and later) shipped from the factory, each attached
Data Domain system has up to 8 ES30 enclosures or up to 2 DS60 enclosures.
Note: DAEs with four or eight SSD drives are required to support Data Domain
HA.
l
Two power drops.
DAE
This section provides an overview of DAE.
Each storage DAE includes:
l
Fifteen 2 or 3 or 4 TB SAS disk drives per ES30 enclosure or sixty 2 or 3 or 4 TB
SAS disk drives per DS60
l
Two LCCs
l
Redundant power supplies
Note:
To support proper RAID and spare operations, all disk drives within an
individual DAE must be the same size.
The boot DAE includes:
l
Four SAS drives
l
Two LCCs
l
Redundant power supplies
l
Two power drops for maximum configuration

Issues to consider when installing the DLm8500 VTEC equipment into a third-party
rack in the field.
DLm VTEC equipment delivery in a Mini-rack
If a customer intends to install the DLm VTEC equipment (VTE servers, 1 GbE
management switches, 10 GbE data switches, sliding service tray) from a DLm8500
Single Rack Solution or a DLm8500 Single Rack HA Solution system into a third-party
rack, Dell EMC ships that equipment in a 12U mini-rack enclosure. The DLm8500
equipment is not intended to operate from within the mini-rack enclosure. Dell EMC
field service personnel should remove the DLm8500 VTEC equipment from the mini-
rack and install that equipment appropriately into a third-party rack of customer.
Maintaining the relative position of DLm VTEC equipment when moving to a
third-party rack
The DLm VTEC equipment has been manufactured and configured in the factory. If
there are two VTE servers in the mini-rack, they have been installed and configured as
DLm8500 with Data Domain Physical Planning
