Cleaning and disinfecting
Particular care in matters of hygiene is required during preparation and inhalation because
of the mist particle size that can enter the alveoli The nebulisation of medicines should
only be carried out with medicine cups
Warning! Do not use flammable or other explosive liquids as a contact liquid or an aerosol
Preparation: Remove the intravenous device and tubing from the nebuliser chamber and
the bacteria filter Pull the nebuliser chamber cover off the nebuliser chamber
Procedure: The individual parts of the ultrasonic nebuliser can be cleaned and disinfected in
accordance with the details in the following table
Warning! Before cleaning or disinfecting, the device must be disconnected from any exter-
nal power supply, as otherwise there is a risk of an electric shock
When doing this, please note the following:
1 The parts must be cleaned and then dried before they are disinfected Dirt particles can
become encapsulated and this can lead to the device parts not being sterile after disin-
fection Therefore, before disinfection, all device parts must be cleaned properly and any
stubborn marks must be removed with a cloth and detergent
2 When using disinfectant, please follow the manufacturers’ advice and that of hygiene
experts
Warning! Risk of injury! Disinfectants can contain substances which are harmful to health,
and which can cause injury if they come into contact with skin and eyes Protect
your skin and eyes and when working with disinfectants, observe the hygiene
regulations
Caution! Changes in materials! Almost all components of the ultrasonic nebuliser are made
of plastic Solvents, many disinfectants or cleaners can partially dissolve plastics or
cause stress cracks Therefore do not use a solution which contains hydrocarbon or
alcohol to clean the surfaces
3 After disinfection in the solution, all device parts must be rinsed thoroughly with water
and then dried immediately
4 Autoclaving with heated steam can cause changes in materials
Caution! Changes in materials! Autoclaving with heated steam will accelerate the natural
ageing process of plastics Changes in material can affect the functionality of the
device parts
5 After cleaning, you must carry out a functional check
Caution! Functional check! After cleaning or disinfecting, you must check that the device
parts are functioning correctly
