INSTALLATION TEMPLATE

Overview

The GP-PWM-30-UL is a 30 Amp Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) solar charge controller designed for photovoltaic solar systems. Its primary function is to maintain battery life by preventing overcharging. When the battery reaches a 100% state of charge, the controller limits the current flowing from the solar array to the batteries. This model is Bluetooth®-enabled and lithium-compatible, making it suitable for modern RV and off-grid applications.

Function Description:

The controller employs a unique four-stage charging system, which includes an optional equalize setting for comprehensive battery care. It features an LCD digital display that provides real-time information on the solar array's charge current, system battery voltage, and battery state of charge. A key feature is the "Maximum Power Boost Technology™" (MPBT), which allows for manual bulk and absorption charging at any point in the charge cycle. This can be particularly useful for quickly boosting battery voltage, for example, after initial installation or when anticipating high power consumption.

The GP-PWM-30-UL is designed for a 12 VDC system voltage and can handle a maximum continuous DC input current of 37.5A and an input voltage of 35VDC. It includes a Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD) function that automatically switches off the USB output port when Battery 1 voltage drops below 11.0 VDC to protect against over-discharge. If a compatible inverter is connected and set to remote mode, the controller will also switch off the inverter with a 2-3 minute delay. The USB output port and remote inverter control are re-enabled when Battery 1 reaches 12.2 VDC (for LFP) or 12.8 VDC (for SEALED, AGM, or FLOODED batteries).

Usage Features:

  • Bluetooth® Wireless Technology: Integrated Bluetooth® Low Energy allows for live status monitoring and settings configuration via the Go Power! Connect app, available for Android and iOS devices. The app facilitates pairing, viewing settings, and general information about the controller.
  • Dual Battery Bank Charging: The controller can charge two separate battery banks. Battery bank 1 (primary/house bank) receives full current first, and once fully charged, current becomes available for battery bank 2.
  • Battery Charging Profile Selection: Users can select from various charging profiles (Sealed/Gel, AGM, Flooded, LFP) to match their battery type. Settings are saved in non-volatile memory.
  • Maximum Power Boost Technology™ (MPBT): This feature allows users to manually initiate a bulk/absorption charge for 30 minutes, boosting battery voltage to 14.4 VDC (Flooded, AGM, LFP) or 14.1 VDC (Sealed/Gel), overriding the normal charging algorithm. It's recommended not to use MPBT more than twice a day for lead-acid batteries to prevent gassing and to preserve lithium battery lifespan.
  • Display Modes: The controller offers two display modes: manual scroll (allowing users to toggle through Battery Voltage, Charging Current, and State of Charge for both batteries) and auto scroll (automatically cycling through the same information every 8 seconds).
  • Inverter Control: Compatible Go Power! inverters (GP-ISW700-12, GP-ISW1000-12, GP-ISW1500-12, GP-ISW1500-TS, GP-ISW2000-12) can be turned on/off directly through the GP-PWM-30-UL using a modular 6p4c RJ11 type connector.
  • USB Charging Port: A standard 5.0 VDC, 1500mA USB port is available for charging small mobile appliances.

Maintenance Features:

  • Error Display: The controller displays error codes and symbols for issues such as reverse polarity (POL), over voltage (>15.5 VDC), and low battery (LOW).
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides extensive troubleshooting information for common problems like blank displays, inaccurate voltage readings, and low current, offering diagnostic steps and remedies.
  • Connections Check: Regular checks for clean, tight, and secure connections are emphasized to prevent voltage drops and ensure proper operation. Re-torquing terminal screws after 30 days of operation is recommended.
  • GFDI Device Requirement: The unit is not provided with a GFDI device; an external GFDI device is required as per National Electric Code Article 690 for the installation location.
  • Firmware Updates: The Bluetooth® connectivity allows for potential firmware updates, although specific details are not provided in the manual.
  • Ampere Hours Charged Reset: The Go Power! Connect app can be used to reset the count of ampere hours charged.
