8 Adjusting the flame monitor
D−LX 200, D−LX 720 99
If possible, make the adjustments to the flame monitor in such a way that the
flame monitor indicates 0 or 4 mA with Flame OUT and 20 mA with Flame ON.
The flame monitor must in any case prevent the simulation of a flame in all
operating states and different firing conditions.
With the optimal selection of the viewing position and alignment, correct
setting of the gain characteristic curve and the thresholds of the flame
monitor, the D−LX 200, D−LX 720 must reliably signal a burner that has
burned out or an impermissible deterioration of the flame image. In this
respect the influence of background light must not lead to any incorrect status
of the facility.
Should the flame monitor, after having been set as non-sensitive to back-
ground light, be unable to detect the flame to be monitored then the difference
between background and useful light is too small (useful light is the flame to be
monitored). In this case it would be useful to switch the gain characteristics
curve to a "higher gain characteristic curve" using the MODE (DIP) switches. A
greater difference in the signal between background and useful can be
obtained by a steeper gain characteristic curve. (Check beforehand that the
position of the sighting tube and alignment to the flame are correct)
If range A and range B are used then each range must be set separately!
With regard to this refer to the Range selection from page 88 onwards.
8.6 Safety time
The safety time is the response time of the flame monitor to a failure of the
flame or an impermissible of it. Following this the relay contact for the Flame
ON message opens the contact.
The Compact Flame Monitor D−LX 200, D−LX 720 has a default safety time of
1 second. Further default values (2s, 3s and 5s) can be delivered according to
the order. The safety time stated on the type label must agree with the safety
time set to the device.
With the FM approved versions -30 and -40 the maximum permitted safety
time is 4 s, in other words the 5 s setting must not be used!
Original
CAUTION!
The Compact Flame Monitor D−LX 200, D−LX 720 (also the Ex- versions as
well as all associated components) are type-approved equipment.
Any modifications to the design of type approved devices results in loss of the
approval. Repairs may only be performed by the manufacturer or his
representatives. This is the only way to ensure responsible compliance with the
guidelines for the type approval from the office that issued the certificate.
In the interests of safety, adjustments to the flame monitor should only be
made by correspondingly trained staff.
DURAG offers appropriate training courses in this respect.
Under no circumstances must switch settings 1 and 2 (regarding safety time)
on DIP switches S3 and S4 (see Figure 8.6 and Table 8.1 on page 92) be
