Quick Start: Introducing DynaVox Series 4
Part # 400023
67
Prediction draws its selections from the Series 4 dictionary. You can make your own personal vocabulary
(including names, single words, multiple word phrases and full sentences) available for word prediction by
adding these items to the dictionary. To make the most of word prediction, create dictionary entries for
the names of family, friends, businesses, towns, hobbies, foods, movies or anything you talk about often.
When you create these dictionary entries, be sure to give them fairly high frequencies. Frequency is an
assigned number (1-100) that reflects the number of times a word is used in your normal conversation.
Words with low frequencies are seldom used. Words with high frequencies tend to be used often and are
predicted more quickly. You may want to try giving a dictionary entry that you will use every day a
frequency between 75 and 100.
Experiment with prediction by following the example below. Word prediction is activated as a default
setting when you receive your device, so begin by opening a keyboard page with predictor buttons:
1. Select the pull-down menu button in the title bar at the top of the touch screen.
2. Select Setup in the main pull-down menu. The Setup menu will open.
3. Select Page Navigator in the second pull-down menu. The Page Navigator menu will open.
4. Select the Keyboard Pages folder in the left viewport.
5. Select the 50 qwerty keyboard page in the right viewport.
6. Select the Go to Page button to close the Page Navigator menu and open the selected
keyboard page.
Once the keyboard page is open, you may try to use word prediction. Note the five predictor buttons just
below the Message Window. In this exercise, use word prediction to complete the sentence “I like ice
cream.”
1. Because it is used so frequently, the word I is usually predicted before you begin typing.
Select the I predictor button to add I to the Message Window. A space will be automatically
added behind the word.
2. Select the L button. Like will appear in one of the predictor buttons.
3. Select the Like predictor button to add like to the Message Window. A space will be
automatically added behind the word.
4. Select the I button.
5. Select the C button. Ice- cream will be displayed in a predictor button. (If ice- cream is not
displayed in one of the predictor buttons, try selecting the E button.)
6. Select the ice-cream predictor button to add the word to the Message Window. A space will
be automatically added behind the word.
