Section 2: Hardware Overview
This section offers a review of the hardware features of your DynaVox Series 4 device. It also contains
important information about setting up and maintaining your device.
What’s in the Box?
Carefully remove your DynaVox Series 4 device and other items from the box. Your DynaVox shipping box
should contain the following:
DV4/MT4 communication device Quick Start manual
DC power adapter/charger Stylus for making touch screen selections
Shoulder strap USB cable
Short handle strap USB storage device
Registration card CD with Page Editing Software and Searchable Help
Note: Be sure to save the box and packing material. If you ever need to send your device back to
DynaVox Technologies for repair, you’ll need the box and packing material to ship it safely.
Hardware Features
The primary feature of your DynaVox Series 4 device is a built-in touch panel on top of an active matrix
(TFT-LCD) color touch screen. On the DV4 device, this touch panel offers a screen resolution of 800 by
600 pixels. On the MT4 device, the screen resolution is 640 by 480 pixels.
Look at the plastic casing surrounding the touch screen on the front of the device (see Figure 1). Three
important hardware features are located here:
Power Button - The circular power button is in the upper left corner. This button can be used to
turn the device on and off.
Microphone - The device’s built-in microphone is directly above the touch screen, behind a small,
oval indentation. This omni-directional, electret condenser microphone can be used to record
sound.
LED - A small light emitting diode (LED) can be found to the right of the touch screen. This amber
LED will light up only when the device is being charged.
