Appendix E: USB Storage Devices
The USB storage device that you received from DynaVox has already been properly formatted to work
with your Series 4 device.
You may purchase an additional USB storage device (also called “flash drives” and “USB drives”) at a
computer electronic retail store.
Note: DV4/MT4 devices will not work with USB storage devices that are larger than 256 MB.
You must properly format a new USB storage device before you can use it with your Series 4 device.
Note: It is unnecessary to format the USB storage device that was shipped with your DV4/MT4
device.
To format a new USB storage device, follow these steps:
1. Save a copy of any data that is currently on the USB storage device in a secure place
2. Insert the USB storage device into one of the USB ports on the right side of your
DV4/MT4 device.
3. A window will appear on the touch screen, asking if you want to format the UMS_FOLDER.
Select the Yes button.
Note: Formatting the USB storage device will erase any files currently stored on it.
4. When the formatting is complete, select the OK button to close the window.
Once the USB storage device is formatted, you may disconnect it from your DV4/MT4 device, or leave it
connected to begin sharing files. You may also copy back to the USB storage device any information that
you stored somewhere else.
