Expert Tip:
– A perfect cleat position is dependent on a lot of different factors, and is
individual. It can be affected by the symmetry of your muscle makeup and
your individual biomechanics. If you are having difficulties please consult
an expert
– The search for the ideal position can take time. Be patient and only make
small adjustments. Be sure to test things properly before making the next
adjustment
– If you are having problems, or wish to take things one step further please
consult a biomechanics specialist or a centre specialising in bike fit. Be
sure that you are working with qualified ergonomics and biomechanics
experts. They will have a range of tools, such as the Ergon TP1 available
to provide you with a tailored solution.
Fine Adjustment
– Before riding, check that the cleat screws are correctly tightened
– The initial check of the new position should be done on a home trainer /
rollers as these allow you to concentrate on the cleat position
– Try to pedal in such a way that the power is efficiently transferred to the
pedals
– Test the cleat position while riding in different styles / positions – standing,
flat out, spinning etc
– If required, change the cleat position accordingly. The key is for a
comfortable and free movement through the legs when pedaling
– Test the setup on the road, but away from traffic – ensure that you
observe all traffic regulations at all times - take the Ergon TP1 with you
and adjust the cleat if needed
– If required, change the cleat position accordingly as above
– Finally test the cleat position off road (if used for MTB / Cyclocross). Be
sure to remove any dirt from the screws if adjustments are made so that
they can be properly tightened.
