Overview

The CP-2272E is a sophisticated remote control panel designed for use within Evertz's MAGNUM control system, offering a powerful and versatile interface for managing complex routing and control tasks in various broadcast and production environments. Its primary function is to provide a highly programmable and intuitive control surface for router control, integrating with automated tielines, pathfinding, and advanced breakaway routing, while also supporting fundamental routing concepts like levels and categories.

The panel features two small, high-resolution color LCD displays and an array of 72 full-color dynamic LCD buttons, all of which are fully programmable. These LCD displays intelligently interact with the panel's buttons and rotary controls, automatically updating their content as different operational facilities are selected. This dynamic interaction allows for a fluid and responsive user experience, adapting the display to the current context of the panel's operation.

Each of the 72 LCD buttons is capable of displaying a multiple-character text string, providing clear and concise labeling for various functions. Beyond simple text display, these buttons can be configured with a menu structure, enabling quick navigation through complex systems. When a menu button is pressed, some or all of the other buttons can change their function and legend, with their operation defined by the configuration setup for the new menu. This capability allows for the creation of highly customized and context-sensitive control layouts, making the panel adaptable to diverse workflows and user preferences. The selection of a new menu can also be configured to change the graphical display on one or both of the LCD screens, further enhancing the panel's adaptability and user feedback.

The CP-2272E is particularly well-suited for applications where a large number of LCD buttons are critical, such as in production areas, technical director areas, and "tape" areas, due to the need to control numerous sources, destinations, and levels. Its compact footprint also makes it an ideal advanced system control panel for truck and mobile applications, where space is often at a premium but comprehensive control is still required.

The panel's usage features include flexible, feature-driven, or menu-driven configurations, which provide quick and simple access to system functions. The two high-quality LCD displays dynamically react with the panel's buttons and rotary controls, offering real-time feedback and status information. The panel is easily reconfigured, making it suitable for environments with regularly changing requirements or workflows. It acts as an advanced control system interface, allowing for deep integration within the MAGNUM control system. All buttons are fully programmable, giving users complete control over the panel's functionality and layout.

For maintenance and configuration, the CP-2272E offers several features. Users can access a setup menu by holding down the top and bottom rotary encoders for approximately six seconds. This menu provides options for configuring network settings, including the IP address, netmask, broadcast address, and gateway. Changes to these settings can be saved or undone as needed. The setup menu also includes various diagnostic tests to ensure proper functionality of the panel's components.

A SHAFT Test mode allows users to verify the functionality of the rotary encoders. In this mode, the two rightmost button columns display numerical values that change as the encoders are rotated or pushed, providing visual feedback on their operation. A KEY Test mode enables users to check all 72 LCD buttons, which continuously flash to indicate proper function. Individual buttons can then be pressed to confirm their response and display key information on the second screen. A GPI Test mode allows users to view and test the General Purpose Inputs, with GPI button status colors changing upon trigger from the joystick port. A TFT Test mode is available to ensure that the two TFT displays are functioning correctly, allowing users to toggle through different states to verify illumination.

The panel also offers a Controls mode within the main menu, where users can adjust LCD Intensity, TFT Intensity, Invert Text, Big Font, and LCD Bold settings. These adjustments allow for customization of the panel's visual presentation to suit environmental conditions or user preferences.

Firmware upgrades for the CP-2272E are performed via a web interface, requiring a PC or laptop connected to the same network as the panel and a compatible web browser (Firefox, Chrome, or Safari). The process involves identifying the panel's IP address through the setup menu, uploading the firmware file via the web interface, and then initiating the upgrade. A progress window keeps the user informed during the upload and upgrade process. After a successful upgrade, the panel must be restarted for the changes to take effect.

Configuration of the CP-2272E is done through the EQX Server / MAGNUM Web Configuration Tool. Users can add the panel to the system by entering its name and IP address, then selecting its model type. Once added, an interface layout page allows users to assign functions to each button by selecting from a drop-down menu of various functions, such as Destination, Source, Level, and different scroll and menu options. Buttons can be repositioned on the interface using a drag-and-drop mechanism, providing a highly flexible layout design. After making changes, users must "Send" the configuration to transfer the button assignments to the physical panel. Options to "Revert" to the original layout or "Done" to save the configuration and return to the main interface page are also available. When a configuration is sent, the panel displays "Loading Configuration" on its buttons, indicating that the new settings are being applied.

The CP-2272E is designed for continuous operation within a specified temperature range and is cooled by fan-assisted convection, with air drawn in from the right side and expelled from the left. Proper airflow must be maintained to ensure optimal performance. The device is powered by a +12V supply and includes a 3-wire grounding type power supply cord for safety. It complies with EU safety directives, FCC Part 15 Class A regulations, and EU EMC directives, ensuring its suitability for commercial environments.
