Overview

This document is an owner's manual for an Exerpeutic Elliptical, Item #1317, designed for therapeutic fitness. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance, ensuring safe and effective use of the product. The manual emphasizes the importance of reading all instructions carefully before use and retaining the manual for future reference.

The elliptical machine is designed for household use and offers a full-body workout. Its primary function is to provide a low-impact cardiovascular exercise that mimics walking or running without putting excessive stress on the joints. This makes it suitable for individuals seeking to improve their fitness, manage weight, or engage in rehabilitation exercises. The design incorporates moving handlebars and foot pedals, allowing users to engage both upper and lower body muscles simultaneously, leading to a more efficient workout.

Usage Features:

Before beginning any exercise program, users are strongly advised to consult their physician, especially if they are over 35 years old or have pre-existing health problems. The manual outlines crucial safety precautions, including the recommendation to perform warm-up exercises before each use to prevent muscle injury. A dedicated "Warm Up" section provides detailed instructions for various stretches, such as Quadriceps Stretch, Inner Thigh Stretch, Toe Touches, and Hamstring Stretches, to prepare the body for exercise.

The elliptical is designed for safe mounting and dismounting. Users should move the pedal on the side they intend to mount to its lowest position, take hold of the nearest handlebar, and place the appropriate foot onto the near-side pedal first, then the far pedal. The process is reversed for dismounting. During use, it is essential to hold onto the handlebars and use both the pedals and handlebars in tandem to ensure a smooth and effective workout. The machine has a maximum weight capacity of 270 lbs (122.6 kgs).

The elliptical features a computer console that tracks various workout metrics. The computer can be activated by pressing a button or by pedaling. If left idle for approximately 5 minutes, the power will automatically turn off. The console includes several functions:

  • SCAN: Automatically cycles through each function every 6 seconds.
  • TIME: Displays the elapsed workout time in minutes and seconds.
  • SPD (SPEED): Shows the current training speed.
  • DIST (DISTANCE): Displays the accumulative distance traveled during the workout.
  • CAL (CALORIES): Indicates the total accumulated calories burned. This data is a rough guide for comparison of different exercise sessions and should not be used for medical treatment.
  • ODO (ODOMETER): Displays the total accumulative distance traveled over the lifetime of the machine.
  • RPM (Revolutions per Minute): Shows the current revolutions per minute.
  • PULSE: Displays the current heart rate figures when users grip the handlebar sensors with both hands. For precise readings, it's crucial to hold the sensors with two hands, not just one, and maintain moderate pressure.

The computer console requires two AAA batteries, which are installed by removing the battery cover, placing the batteries correctly, ensuring proper contact with springs, and then re-installing the cover. If the display is illegible or shows only partial segments, users are instructed to remove the batteries, wait 15 seconds, and then reinstall them.

The elliptical also includes an adjustment feature for leveling the machine. The rear stabilizer end cap can be turned as needed to ensure the elliptical is stable on uneven surfaces, preventing wobbling during use. Additionally, the foot bars have four holes for personal foot pedal adjustment, allowing users to customize their stride for comfort and effectiveness.

Maintenance Features:

The manual provides a "Trouble Shooting & Maintenance" section to address common issues and ensure the longevity of the elliptical.

Troubleshooting:

  • Wobbling: If the elliptical wobbles during use, users should turn the rear stabilizer end cap as needed to level the machine.
  • No Computer Display: If the computer console has no display, users should remove the console and verify that the wires from the console are properly connected to the wires from the front post.
  • Erratic Heart Rate Reading: For inconsistent or no heart rate readings, users should ensure that the wire connections for the hand pulse sensors are secure. To improve precision, users should always hold the handlebar grip sensors with two hands, not just one, and maintain moderate pressure.
  • Squeaking Noise: If the elliptical makes a squeaking noise, users should inspect all assembly bolts and tighten any loose ones.

Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: The elliptical should be cleaned with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Abrasives or solvents on plastic parts should be avoided. Users are advised to wipe perspiration off the elliptical after each use. Care should be taken to prevent excessive moisture from reaching the computer display panel, as this could cause electrical hazards or electronic failure. The computer console should also be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent screen damage.
  • Inspection: All assembly bolts and pedals on the machine should be inspected weekly for proper tightness.
  • Storage: The elliptical should be stored in a clean and dry environment, away from children.

The manual also includes a "Service" section for North American customers, providing contact information for product service and replacement parts. Customers can call a toll-free number or email the customer service department. When requesting service, users should have their name, phone number, model number, serial number, part number, and proof of purchase ready. It is also advised to contact customer service before returning the product to the store. A "FAX FORM" is provided for parts requests, detailing the information needed for ordering replacement parts, including the owner's manual, model number, description of parts, part number, and date of purchase.
