Besureignitionswitchisinthe“OFF”position
beforechargingthebattery.
1.Parkmachineonlevelground,disengagetheblade
controlswitch,engagetheparkingbrake,stop
engine,andremovekey.Waitforallmovingparts
tostopbeforeleavingtheoperator’sposition.
2.Raisetheseat.
3.Disconnectthenegative(black)groundcable
fromthebatterypost(Figure54).Retainall
fasteners.

Disconnectthepositive(red)cablefromthe
batterypost.Retainallfasteners.
5.Removethebatterystrap(Figure54)andliftthe
batteryfromthebatterytray.
CheckingtheBatteryCharge
1.Removethebatteryfromthechassis;referto
RemovingtheBattery.
2.Allowingbatteriestostandforanextended
periodwithoutrechargingthemwillresultin
reducedperformanceandservicelife.Topreserve
optimumbatteryperformanceandlife,recharge
batteriesinstoragewhentheopencircuitvoltage
dropsto12.4volts.
Note:Topreventdamageduetofreezing,
batteryshouldbefullychargedbeforeputting
awayforwinterstorage.
3.Checkthevoltageofthebatterywithadigital
voltmeter.Locatethevoltagereadingofthe
batteryinthetablebelowandchargethebattery
fortherecommendedtimeintervaltobringthe
chargeuptoafullchargeof12.6voltsorgreater.
Important:Makesurethenegativebattery
cableisdisconnectedandthebatterycharger
usedforchargingthebatteryhasanoutputof
16voltsand7ampsorlesstoavoiddamaging
thebattery(seechartbelowforrecommended
chargersettings).
